Police in Harare have arrested a 30-year-old man over the death of his wife at a farm compound in Hatfield, in a case that has renewed attention on domestic violence in the capital.
Stephen Sarurai was taken into custody on Thursday, 17 September 2026 in connection with the death of Zvikomborero Tari, 26. According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police, the woman was strangled with a shoelace during a dispute at the couple’s home at Maruwa Farm Compound, in a row that is said to have centred on allegations of infidelity.
What police say happened
The suspect is expected to face a murder charge as investigations continue. The ZRP confirmed the arrest in a statement issued from Harare, saying the two had been involved in a domestic argument before the attack.
The killing is the latest in a string of violent domestic incidents reported in and around Harare this year, and it has focused fresh scrutiny on how quickly cases of abuse inside the home escalate into fatalities.
Second case: Dzivarasekwa body still unidentified
In an unrelated investigation, police in Harare are still appealing for help in identifying the body of a man found along an unnamed dust road running through the Newcastle Group of Schools in Dzivarasekwa.
The body was discovered on 12 July 2026. According to police, the man had a deep cut above his right eye, scratch marks on both hands, a fractured right leg and swelling on his back.
He was wearing a grey jacket, grey trousers, a white and navy-blue striped T-shirt, a sun hat and black and white sneakers at the time he was found.
The body is being kept at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, where it is awaiting identification by relatives. Investigators have not yet established the man’s identity or the circumstances that led to his death, and they are treating the case as a suspected murder.
Appeal for information
Police have asked anyone who may recognise the description of the deceased, or who has information about either case, to report to the nearest police station.
Members of the public who may have seen the man in Dzivarasekwa in the days before 12 July, or who know of a family searching for a missing relative, are being urged to come forward. Information can also be passed to officers handling the Hatfield investigation.
Both cases remain under investigation, and no further arrests have been announced in the Dzivarasekwa matter.
